There’s Diamonds and Gold All Around! Your Mid-Week Butt Kickin’ – Volume 2
One of the things I always wondered when I read people who blogged or did motivational speaking was, WHERE DO THEY GET ALL THEIR MATERIAL?!
Let me step back for a moment. I was listening to a speaker once and he told a story about when people drive to work. On their way to work if a person cuts them off they may get mad and consumed for hours over it. Basically while they drive they are AVOIDING the bad. But what they fail to do is notice or enjoy any beauty around them; a sunset, mountains or flowers. I know, I know kinda corny, but the point of the story is, they weren’t LOOKING.
What I’m trying to say is that the things I am sharing with you in these blogs are all around you if you are looking for it. Why I am sharing this with you? A few reasons. First, most of the material I am sharing I have learned or picked up from someone else. I’d like you to think I was smart enough to come up with it on my own, but the truth is I found it and I found it because now I am looking for it. I will try to give credit when I can. It is not my intent to plagiarize anyone’s material. But in many cases there is no exact source. The other reason is to get you to start looking for these diamonds around you. To starting forging the gold that exists. I know you won’t find it if you don’t have an open eye for it.
I’ll give some examples of where some of my material may come from in the coming months. The first one is from my business partner Dr. Bean and the church he attends. It’s called the “Word of the Day” and has a paragraph that you read each day and there is some great material. I read it every morning. Now it does have a tie in to the Bible which for some is no problem. But if you refused to pick it up because it does this, you would be missing out on a FREE gold mine. And to be quite honest the Bible references are to stories that relate to the lesson of the day. The next thing I may use from time to time is a book we use for our office word of the week. “The Daily Book of Positive Quotations” By Linda Picone………..$13.95. The affirmations you follow on Twitter, “The Winners Journal” by John and Pam Carls……….$15.95 Are you getting my point? The Tools you need for success are all around you at a price of free to around 15 bucks. (My book $17.95, a shameless plug). I know one thing though; you can’t mine for diamonds or gold if you aren’t willing to dig a bit.
