70. Keep an open mind.

Some of you reading this simply need to get out of your own way. The reason you aren’t reaching the level of success and happiness in your lives is because you are not willing to let it happen. If you have an open mind, you may get something out of a particular situation or you might not. When you go into it with a closed mind, you are almost guaranteed to get nothing out of a situation every time. Successful people leave themselves open to success while unsuccessful people stay closed minded and reap the same result every time.

Well, if we know that open minded people have more wins than closed minded people, why aren’t we all open minded? The answer is simple; being open minded leaves you with the greatest chance of reward but also leaves you open to the greatest possibility of failure. It is a prime example of risk versus reward. So being closed minded limits your chances of looking stupid and making a mistake but you also close the door to success.

We don’t need to worry about this because by now you should understand that there are no mistakes, only making the same mistake over and over again (Tool 63). And if you go into a situation with an open mind, you may just surprise yourself and come out ahead with a big score. So do yourself a favor and go into more situations with an open mind so you can leave more situations with some success under your belt.
