Accept Change As Part Of Life; Don’t Fight It
3. Accept change as part of life; don’t fight it.
This could be one of the most important Tools in the bag. I would liken it to a screwdriver or a hammer, something that you should be able to find in every house and toolbox. It surprises me how many people have difficulty with change, including myself at one time. It may be one of the biggest areas that hinder personal growth.
One of the best examples of this is people who never get over an ex or a divorce. Years later and it still consumes them. I mean let’s admit change is uncomfortable, weird and unfamiliar; all aspects of life that most try to avoid. The funny thing is that change is a part of life; it’s going to happen and you can either embrace it or wait for things to go back to the way they were. This is where the big problem occurs, waiting for things to go back to the way they used to be (which almost never happens) and as you wait and wait and wait, what is happening is NOTHING. No personal growth or development; we just sit there and if we’re not growing, we’re dying.
Want to know what your life will look like five years from now? Keep doing exactly what you are doing now. This is why accepting change is a part of life, a part of growing. If you find this area to be a major struggle in your life and would like to learn more, I highly suggest you read Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson. This is almost a perfect example of why I wrote this book. Before I read Spencer’s book I simply didn’t have a Tool to deal with change. Now I do and now so do you.
