Garbage In, Garbage Out. Good Stuff In, Good Stuff Out.
47. Garbage in, garbage out. Good stuff in, good stuff out.
Gandhi once said, “I will not let someone walk through my mind with dirty feet.” Once again we have a Tool that plays right off the last one. I swear that I didn’t do this on purpose, but I am glad that it happened this way. If we are unhappy with the output of our lives, we need to check what the input is. The way our body reacts is largely due to the things that we put inside of it.
The analogy used again and again in this book is that your brain is nothing more than a computer. If you decide to put bad programs, old programs and viruses in that computer, what do you think the screen will look like? If you constantly keep the computer up-to-date with the latest versions and with new and better programs to aid you in success, and keep the virus software up to date, the picture the monitor displays will be much better. Your brain can only work with what you decide to put into it, good stuff or garbage, you make the choice.
This goes for your body as well. You have heard it a thousand times but if your body was a million dollar sports car, what would you put into it? You would put in the best oil, fuel and parts money could buy. You would make sure it never missed a service appointment and you would keep it as clean as possible. If the sports car analogy doesn’t work for you, let me use one that is a little more serious.
If you had one car to last you 100 years, how would you treat it? This seems to hit people a little harder sometimes. But it’s true, you only get one body and the chances of you living to 100 get greater every year. So if we know these things to be true and you are struggling in these areas, put this Tool to use. The goal of this book is to help you achieve more wins in your life, hence better outputs. Better outputs start when better inputs occur.
